How did you meet, and what fashion related memories do you share?

We’re the designers behind Bahía, and we’ve known each other for as long as we can remember. Childhood friends from our school days, we were already bound by a deep love for fashion. It’s always been our strongest thread, something that lit us up and brought us together naturally. That early chemistry became the start of a path that, over time, turned into a shared life project.

What led you to launch your own fashion brand?

Bahía was born from the fusion of two complementary passions: Rachel, who grew up surrounded by fabrics, shop windows, and style talks through her mother’s business, and drew textile inspiration from her father, and Maria Elisa, forever driven by fashion and the entrepreneurial world.

Rachel studied Fashion Marketing, and shortly after graduating, Maria Elisa suggested joining forces to build an authentic Dominican brand for both women and men. That’s how Bahía came to life: a distinct proposal with local roots, offering timeless, versatile, high-quality pieces, original designs that carry the essence of Caribbean elegance.

At Bahía, we believe in purpose-driven fashion beyond trends, rooted in who we are and where we come from. Our philosophy is to design timeless pieces that embody the spirit of our land, crafted with iconic materials and the skill of Dominican artisans—especially the women whose artistry and care are present in every stitch.

Which cultural or aesthetic influences most shape your designs?

Our inspiration springs from the natural beauty of our island—its landscapes, its culture, and the warmth of its people. Each collection channels that Caribbean spirit within us, interpreted in an elegant, fresh, and authentic way.

We work primarily with linen, a light and breathable fabric that thrives in tropical weather—perfect for dressing with comfort and style, all year long.

What does Bahia’s creative process look like from concept to creation?

We draw inspiration from the natural beauty of our island, its landscapes, its culture, and the warmth of our people. Every collection starts there, in the Caribbean we carry within us, and becomes designs that feel elegant, fresh, and authentic. We want each piece to reflect our essence, with details that define us as a brand: bows, linen, high necklines, soft ruffles, and a built-in versatility that lets every garment adapt to different styles and moments.

Our process is deeply personal: we begin with an idea, sketch it out, carefully choose colors and materials, and shape each piece while thinking about how it will feel and how it will come to life on the body of the person who wears it.
